ABOUT US

The mission of this website is to be the nucleus of information for the entire ETOL Community. Our purpose is to provide one space in which the community can connect, stay updated, and organize to tackle wicked problems such as Climate Change, Social Inequity, Accessibility in the Outdoors, etc.
IF YOU COULD MOBILIZE THE ETOL COMMUNITY TO TACKLE ONE PROBLEM, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
This is the question we continue to ask ourselves as we grow the website, and one we would like to discuss in the forums! We believe we can tackle some huge issues and make lasting change if we band together as a community. Where would you like to see change happen? What would have to change within the community to create that change? Take the lead ETOL

Karly U.
Head Administrator, ETOL Alumni Chapter Secretary and Equity and Meaningful Inclusion Advisor
Hey, I'm Karly! Class of 2020 (oof). I am passionate about making the outdoors inclusive and accessible to all people. I focus on people with disabilities, nature as space for healing grief, and Indigenous land rights. My approach to the outdoor community is built on a foundation of ethical space and honouring different ways of knowing. I love to hike, bum around lakes, and stargaze.

Will P.
Administrator, Student Showcase Lead, & Junior Student Representative
Aloha, I’m Will Pye! I have been in ETOL since 2018 and have plans to graduate eventually. I enjoy sharing stories, learning about cultures, history, geology, geography and how people interact with the surrounding land. My favourite activities include climbing waterfalls, hiking up rivers and building things. My future is a mystery so each day is like paddling down an unknown a river, it bends and turns changing over time, I never know where it will go but eventually ill end up where I am supposed to be.

ETOL ALUMNI CHAPTER (ETOLAC) LEADERSHIP

Randi K.
ETOLAC President
Hello from Randi Klein! I graduated in November 2019 and have been working on (but mostly off) before the pandemic as an Interpretive Hiking Guide and office manager for The Company of Adventurers. I have also been working for the UofC Outdoor Center's youth programs when not riding that EI train like so many others. My hope is that I can continue working as a hiking guide in some capacity in the months to come.
Currently, I have developed a love for paddlesports, including canoeing, kayaking and SUPing, to add to my other outdoor activities like backpacking, hiking, biking and skiing once the snow flies.
If you have any questions about the ETOLAC give me a shout! mirahklei@gmail.com

Paul Jessop
ETOL Part-time Faculty
Hey I'm Paul, I completed my Bachelor of Applied Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership at Mount Royal University in 2008, and immediately enrolled in an Instructor course with the National Outdoor Leadership School. Later I completed a Master's of Education in Leadership Studies from the University of Victoria with research focusing on outdoor experiential leadership education. Since 2014 I've taught leadership and activity courses for the ETOL program and when I'm not teaching my favourite recreational activity is paddling. Lastly, I am a passionate believer in John Dewey's quote that: "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself."
