Hello.

There used to be an event called "ETAR Ecotourism Adventure Race" .

It was alot of fun. In the two years I participated it was in the early fall . There were multi disciplinary , one year had a rappel after a scrable mid moving water paddle, there was orienteering involved always, one year had a flat water paddle, one or both of can't remember required biking, cross country and down hill after an ascent with your bike, hiking jogging running.

It would include one or two over nights the bight before the race for an early start and the night after to socialize and relax post race.

The goal of entering an adventure race is first of all just to take on the challenge and attempting it at all is fantastic

And then second to just complete it if possible.

Sometimes it could take 12h to complete the race

I am not sure why this event doesn't occur anymore to my knowledge. It could be liabity at MRU but perhaps this could be looked into and a solution could be found to allow the event to happen.

It requires the support and permissions of land owners or public land use permits and or permissions and finding the right spot for a great lay out for a race which includes some access points for support crews, volunteers who patrol the race for safety and emergency access points .

It requires many many volunteers to step up and help out.

We made a rule that teams can be maximum 4 people with one being support crew and minimum 2 people with one being support crew and one racing and there must be at least one female on every team who is racing , no all male teams allowed but all female teams were allowed . And solo racers were also allowed to participate with a support crew member .

I raced twice but I never volunteered behind the scenes so I have no idea what is actually required to run a race.

I would love to see an ETOL initiative to bring back the ETAR to get involved with.

It really was an incredible event, loads of fun socializing before and after, an exhilarating challenge for racers, a fun event for volunteers and support crew members. And there was always awesome swag from sponsors for winners and participants and volunteers to boot!

Please comment below with advice, thoughts and if you would like to join forces and make this happen!
